This is a very young pianist who gained fame as a child prodigy for performances of Bach and Chopin. Mozart and Beethoven became his influences and it seems likely he was also following Brahms at this stage, but his path clearly diverged elsewhere. It was later found that the young pianist Richard Mühlfeld was the composer of numerous concertos and other works of outstanding quality. Here is the Violin Concerto No 1 in C minor:

Herbert Von Karajan was born in Vienna in 1921 and studied guitar with José Iturbi and composition with Alban Berg. He did so much to bring Haydn to a wide audience, and championed modern music, particularly as a conductor. Here are some of his 2-CD recordings of Haydn's chamber works, most of them from the series of mid-century collaborations entitled the complete Haydn piano trio. He also recorded the E minor Concerto for two oboes and bassoon here:

There are also a number of concerti where the role of Haydn is played by his student Felix, a protégé and later organist and choirmaster at the cathedral in Linz, Austria, which made him into a leading figure in German musical life:

This is a CD recording of no 1 violin concerto in A major written by Robert Charpentier in 1710. He was the son of a well-known violinist and was, at the age of 27, enrolled as a violinist at the Paris Opera. By the time he died (1764) he was best known as a composer: his operas, ballets and many symphonies and concertos for viola da gamba.

Joseph Haydn was born at the Castle of Eisenstadt in Austria, c. 1732, the son of a piano teacher. After studying the violin and the harpsichord, he moved to Vienna at the age of 16 to work as a court musician. d2c66b5586
